We (finally) received our star panels on Thursday, and of course I wanted to open the boxes right there and then but I waited until Geoff got home that night so we could open the box together...ohhhhh how exciting!
Since we couldn't (yes it's DIY) start the installation until Saturday, I took a few snaps to show you what it looks like...incase your after some yourself!
(2)
do you remember what I explained in (this post ) about the air duct?
(3)
we ended up reattaching it back to the ducting (not an easy job and needs 2 people) with duct tape
(4)
here it is back in place..I'm not worried about the missing paint around the edging, that won't be seen!
(5)
those little white strips on the edge of the boards are what creates the gaps between the panel and the ceiling
(6)
(7)
the arrows and numbers on the boards help determine the position of every one and the direction they go in
So now lets get to Saturday shall we...
We both took turns in reading the instructions that were given and it all sounded pretty straight forward...even for me!
As Geoff got all the tools (a phillips head screwdriver, ladder and ruler) necessary, I carefully started taking the panels out of the box to find the first one marked (No 1).
While Geoff (happily) climbed into the roof to put in the power point above where the first panel goes (into the coffered part of the ceiling), this way the pp was in the roof space and only the end where the connector goes is in (the coffered side) is seen from the cinema side until the panel hides it... see pic below

male and female connectors
So after that was done (and after he put a hole in the wrong spot, see pic 9), it was time to put the first screws in (you do this carefully whilst standing it on its end on the ground) then once you lift it toward the ceiling, you connect it to the power (switch on to make sure it works) and then screw it in place with the panel screws.

whoopsies....wrong spot!

Woohoo she's working, yay!
Confused that the panel had a circle marked to be cut for the air vent on it, it was obvious that it was numbered wrong as this panel should be No.3
So after going through all the panels and reading all the numbers out loud (I counted them at least 4 times to be sure) and placed them all over the dining room floor (it's a good thing the dining suite hasn't come yet) and sure enough, we were definitely missing the No.2 panel
So that kinda left a sour taste in ones mouth I must admit, as now we have to wait 'till they send us the missing panel or (god help them), make a new one...grrrrr!
I was soooooo hoping that we could have them done this weekend as I really really really hate waiting!
So now goodness knows when we'll finish this room off, hopefully (fingers crossed) they realised it was still at the factory on Friday and sent it straight away....it may get here tomorrow.....wishful thinking!
Now, that leaves me with today...
I had a brainwave this morning (this only happens to me every now and then lol), and with excitement I said to Geoff that we should just work backwards with the panels that way they're up and we only have to put the missing one in when we get it.....simple...right?
But he said no (picture very sad face and bottom lip dropped), we're better off to do it the way it says on the sketch incase something else goes wrong....grrrrr!
We did however screw the first panel in place so I guess that's a start...so keep watching this space!
